At the risk of starting another heated debate about the merits of literary competitions, I thought that any poets among the Colonists might be interested in this:

Poetry is notoriously hard to place with agents, so anything that shines a light on one's verses has got to be good news. Poet Don Marquis summed things up well, when he said: 'Publishing a volume of verse is like dropping a rose petal down the Grand Canyon and waiting for the echo'.
The $5,000 first prize and $2,000 advance on a publishing contract is attractive. I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth, but it's estimated that Amazon makes $1,084 profit a second, so I doubt that Jeff Bezos is holding his breath on the results of his largesse.
