• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

    • Don't give offence

We now allow political discussion, but strongly suggest it takes place in the Steam Room, which is a private sub-forum within Café Life. It’s only accessible to Full Members.

The beautiful part of writing is that you don't have to get it right the first time, unlike, say, a brain surgeon. You can always do it better, find the exact word, the apt phrase, the leaping simile.

Ah, lovely. I'm a huge fan of the late great Robert Cormier.
And I know exactly what he means. I deal with life and death in my day job - I can't afford to fuck it up - but I love being able to go over my writing again and again, knowing I'll never have to discuss my characters with the coroner.

Now that's a powerful sentence. "I love being able to go over my writing again and again, knowing I'll never have to discuss my characters with the coroner."
