• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

I am stupidly delighted to announce that the latest issue of Mslexia magazine is out today and contains a short story by yours truly.

That my very first short story has been selected for the Mslexia Showcase on its very first submission is something rather miraculous. If only pitching my novel could be so instantly straightforward. The Showcase was judged by author, Amy Key.

There should also be a little interview – just a snippet, I think - from a longer conversation with the editor. I haven’t actually seen the interview yet because I’m away from home at the moment and won’t get my copy of the magazine until I get back. If anyone subscribes, please read it and tell me I don’t come across too badly.

The story in question is The Craft of Half Remembering which some of you may half-remember from the Lab a few months back. And here I must extend my eternal gratitude to those who helped shape the final form. I honestly couldn’t have done it with you.

...and anybody else who read it (hope I haven't missed anyone).IMG-20250901-WA0002.jpg

Thanks everyone!
I tracked down the magazine at Bookhaus in Bristol. The interview is retold in first person, and it doesn't sound like me at all, but it's pretty cool nonetheless.
Here's what judge Amy Key had to say about the story.IMG_20250901_154019598~2.jpg
