• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

    • Don't give offence

I don't have much time to greet you all individually, so I thought I'd just stick this into the Welcome Lounge and hope you guys find it.
Litopia is a very special place.
The inhabitants are an amazing bunch of talented and helpful people. It helps if you treat them nicely. Coloured beads are useful, but generally I've found the natives prefer cake or alcohol.
All tribespeople are somewhat in awe/love with the chief, AgentPete. Luckily (for the common good) he remains humble.
If you have a question, there will always be a wise elder to answer it. If you need cheering up, there will always be a friendly shoulder to cry on.
So enjoy yourselves!
Take care and may 2021 prove a better year for everyone.

Well, I have a lot to be humble about, @Rachel Caldecott-Thornton ! :) :)

Thank you for such kind words. Our Pop-Up guest Jamie was also very kind yesterday, when he spoke about the impact that Litopia had had on him. I genuinely wasn’t expecting that, perhaps rather the opposite actually as we reminisced about the early days of Litopia (it was turbulent).

Anyhow, agents adore it when they’re mentioned or acknowledged by writers. It makes the whole shebang feel worthwhile.

And on a practical note, when one is agent-hunting, a great starting place is the Acknowledgements section in books authored by writers you admire. Gives you a nice opening line to the agent… “I was so impressed by JK Rowling’s mention of you…” Any agent is going to read that. :)
