• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

Hello,

I'm Anaximander, I'm 55 years old, I live in the Netherlands. Been a member since September but only now getting around to checking out the site. I'm working on a fantasy novel; I'm almost at the end of Act I and currently I'm sick and tired of it and in need of a breather. I've been building the world for over twenty years, finally thought I would need to get cracking. I hope here to find a community of like-minded people, some advice (well, a lot of advice).

My novel deals with institutional corruption, explicit violence, identity and belonging, power dynamics, prejudice, moral compromise and faith vs. atheism. And I love skewering fantasy tropes and cliches. Scrivener and Personal Brain are my primary tools.

In the few minutes that I don't write or work, I like trail running, scuba diving, video editing or mucking about with a base-building game (which I've spend far too much time on already).

Your work in progress sounds very interesting with a lot of layers..

Hope to see you on Saturday at the Huddle Xmas Party.

Hi Anaximander

I, too, write historical dramas with some fantasy and spiritual knowledge, and learning since 1981 how the World nears repairing. When you reach writers block I think it's best to leave it, go for a walk, think about research and resources that can help, other people's writing to inspire, but we have all our own methods, I am sure. Good luck with the book.

Hello Anaximander,
Pleased to meet you and hear about your work in progress. Fantasy is a great genre for your themes. Interesting to hear you use Scrivener. I never quite got the hang of it. Good luck with your endeavour.
